Professional Fees

Initial evaluation therapy session is typically scheduled for about 90 minutes.

Individual therapy sessions are typically scheduled for about 90 minutes.

Couples therapy sessions are typically scheduled for  90 minutes.

I realize that most sessions are 50 minutes, however I find that allowing for more time allows for faster growth. If you would like your session to be shorter, please let me know ahead of time and I will honor your request.

A “sliding scale” is standard practice, however I do not believe that your income should automatically determine your session rate. Hence, my rates are based on the time of day and other controllable factors rather than your salary. This approach allows you to decide for yourself what works best for your life and finances. Basically, the earlier you schedule your appointment in the morning, the less your fee will be. The total minimum rate for any given client is $85.00 — based on the earliest time slot available and a maximum rate will be $105.00 based on the latest time slots available in the day. Initial evaluation sessions are $90.00. In that session we will go over a large amount of information, determine goals, treatment plan possibilities, and make a choice if we are a good match for continued therapy.

If you want to pay in advance for sessions we can work out a cheaper bulk-rate. This can be discussed in detail once we meet if you so desire this option. I can work with a few clients at a lower rate if my schedule provides the availability. Please feel free to inquire, if your circumstances require this option, to see if my practice currently allows for such openings.

I offer an alternative to the world run by insurance rules and regulations. I currently have made the choice to accept only fee-for-service. By paying directly for psychotherapy, the client ensures complete privacy as insurance would require that your information become part of your health record. The client also retains more control over his or her treatment in terms of duration and frequency as most insurance companies allow only a specific set of sessions based on a diagnosis for some course of treatment. By paying directly, a third party is not making decisions about your care: You are in control.

In addition, paying directly for services avoids any need to medicalize treatment or assign diagnoses unless absolutely clinically necessary. Unfortunately, insurance companies will not pay for psychotherapy unless you are diagnosed with an illness. I provide therapy to any and all people without the stigma of being considered “ill” to seek out a therapist for life’s inevitable struggles. I refuse to give someone a medical diagnosis simply to appease an insurance company.
Billing and Payment for Services

Cash and check payments are accepted. Fees for services are payable at the time services are delivered, unless other arrangements are made with the therapist. If more than three (3) consecutive sessions have occurred without payment, termination or referral of services may be considered, and will be discussed with the client. An additional fee for any bounced checks will apply and the therapist then has the right to ask the client for a different form of payment.

Late Cancellations and Unkept Appointments

When an appointment has been scheduled, you will be expected to keep that appointment unless you let me know ahead of time that you are unable to attend.

If you do need to cancel an appointment, I ask that you notify me no later than 10:00 am on the workday preceding your appointment, or you will be billed for that session. If your missed appointment or late cancellation is due to an emergency or circumstances beyond your control, such as severely inclement weather, I would certainly understand and you would not be charged.

As a courtesy to other clients, I ask that you give me as much advance notice as possible of any appointments that you need to cancel, so that there will be sufficient time to contact others to let them know of an opening.

Outstanding Balances:

I expect outstanding balances — if you forget your checkbook or forget we had an appointment — to be made up at the following session. In instances in which outstanding balances are over 30 days you will be assessed a finance charge monthly and billed at the first of each month. After 90 days with no payments or effort to arrange payment, accounts will be turned over to Associated Recovery Systems, Inc. for collections and will impact your credit rating.

Legal Issues

Please note up front that I will not take part in any legal proceedings: including mandated therapy, divorce or custody meditation etc. I am a therapist not a character witness for disputants.

However, if court ordered to become involved in legal proceedings that require my participation, you will be expected to pay for, and agree to be responsible for, all of my professional time, including preparation, transportation costs and time out of the office, even if I is called to testify by another party. Because of the difficulty of legal involvement, and tremendously increased liability costs, my fees are $185.00 per hour for preparation and attendance at any legal proceeding.
